Musical in a Week: Matilda - Ages 9 to 15

This workshop takes place every day between 10am and 4pm from Monday 4 to Friday 8 August with a 6pm performance on the Friday.

Join us for Chelmsford Theatre’s first Musical in a Week! Working with Grace, a talented choreographer and musical theatre tutor, and Megan, our Creative Engagement Officer and acting teacher, a group of 30 young people will bring Matilda Jr to life in just one week!

This five day process will involve full dance routines, singing workshops, acting masterclasses and full rehearsals. Bringing to life all the classics like ‘Naughty’, ‘School Song’, and ‘Revolting’, the team of young people will work together to bring together a full production. This will be performed in the Chelmsford Theatre studio on the final Friday to parents and careers, with full lights and sound.

Tickets for the final performance are free, and we can offer four tickets per young person. If you would like to request more tickets, this is something we can discuss closer to the time.

It is a non-negotiable that young people attend all five days, including the performance at 6pm on Friday 8th August.

We will ensure that every child has a speaking part and is fully involved in the production. However, we cannot promise particular roles or a lead role to every participant. We will be conducting a quick, informal group audition on the Monday to help up assign roles. There will be two casts (one for each act), meaning there is enough parts for everyone to be thoroughly involved.

Key parts of costume will be provided, however some base items, or easily sourced items, may need to be provided by parents or careers, for example a white shirt.
