Carousel

Presented by local amateur group Trinity Music and Drama.

One of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s best-loved, Carousel is set in a New England coastal village at the end of the 19th century. The swaggering, carefree carnival barker, Billy Bigelow, captivates and marries the gentle millworker, Julie Jordan.

All does not run smoothly with their romance. Billy has no job and on learning that he is to become a father, desperate to provide a decent life for his new family, he is coerced into being an accomplice to a robbery. Caught in the act and facing the certainty of prison, he takes his own life.

This is a story that explores human frailty, resilience and forgiveness, and the manner in which Billy comes to understand hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to the power of love.

You’ll be both entertained and stirred by the well-known musical numbers “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”, “Blow High Blow Low”, Mister Snow “ and the iconic “You’ll Never Walk Alone” .
