Markus Birdman: We Are All In The Gutter, But Some Of Us Are Looking At The Gutter
After 20 years of stand up, Markus Birdman did Britain’s Got Talent. People asked him, why now? Up till that point he’d been very happy avoiding TV & fame and in that sense, he’d been hugely successful! However, the year before, he also had a stroke and lost half his eyesight. Keen to talk about his experience, comedically and to as many people as possible Britain’s Got Talent felt like the next step. He did quite well, making it to the semi finals and having his fifteen minutes of fame.
But, be careful what you wish for! Who knew talking about your own experience could be so offensive. How dare he make jokes about his own strokes and blindness. What a nasty, awful man.
This is a candid and hilarious new stand-up hour, talking about who Markus is in an era where people are really keen to hear about who you are, so long as who you are is something they want to think about. Otherwise, you deserve a stroke.
Never mind the haters, he will come back at you with love. Apart from a few who can still kiss his half blind backside.
A torrent of formidable gags, skilfully told, and with a gripping story underpinning them all ★★★★ ½ Chortle
This most personal hour is the best thing I’ve seen Birdman do ★★★★ The Scotsman
